This class is offered at our
Portland location.
This full day class, held on sheltered water, provides the student with a repertoire of useful strokes and boat maneuvers. The key cause and effect relationships involved in boat control are introduced and students learn to perform maneuvers safely and efficiently. The class covers efficient forward and reverse paddling, a wide variety of strokes for turning, the use of edging to assist turning, rudder strokes for maintaining a course and draw strokes for moving sideways. We also refine and practice low and high brace strokes for preventing capsize. There is an option for a BCU 1 Star assessment with this course.

On the water, You Will Need:
- Tennis shoes or river sandals with wool socks or wetsuit booties
- Sunglasses with retention device (i.e. Croakies, Chums, etc)
- Sunscreen (SPF 30), lip balm (SPF 15)
- Sun hat, rain hat, and/or fleece hat
- Synthetic top and bottom (thermal underwear, heavier wt. for cooler weather)
- Rain coat and rain pants
- Nylon shorts and/or swimsuit
- Water bottle (1 quart)
- Towel and change of clothes for ride home
- Lunch and snacks
Optional Gear:
- Camera with film, batteries and dry
storage
- Binoculars
Meeting Place/Directions:
Strokes & Maneuvers classes meet at the Jantzen Beach store in N. Portland. You will receive detailed instructions and a map with your confirmation packet.
