Class Schedule
ALL PADDLING GEAR PROVIDED or bring your own
REFINEMENT LEVEL; BCU 2 Star Award or instructor's approval required
This class meets at River Mill Dam in Estacada, Oregon.
This full day class, held in sheltered water, will focus on efficiency and effectiveness of the full range of strokes, bilaterally and in both forward and reverse directions. Rather than emphasizing specific, fixed strokes we will explore the continuum of body, boat and paddle blade positions that are appropriate for different scenarios. We will emphasize bio-mechanical efficiency and safety, appropriate paddle blade and shaft articulation, and how to exploit the behavioral characteristics of your kayak's hull design using different degrees of edging and trim. We will focus on blending strokes together and making an appropriate selection of strokes for specific scenarios. By integrating formal instruction with fun challenges and self-discovery learning exercises we will make the course informative and fun. This course will help you achieve full command of your kayak and will build a firm and essential foundation for paddling in more advanced conditions.
The Stroke Refinement Clinic will be scheduled a couple of times during the summer. Call to reserve your spot in the next class.
